Privacy Policy

Last updated: February 13, 2026

Welcome to YalmCalc ("we", "us", or "our"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how we handle information when you visit our website at https://yalm.net (the "Site"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what choices you have.

1. Information We Collect

YalmCalc is designed to work without requiring user accounts or login credentials. We do not collect personal information unless you voluntarily provide it. Below is a summary of the types of information that may be gathered.

Information You Provide Voluntarily

  • Browser preferences: We store your theme preference and cookie consent status in your browser's local storage. No personal information is collected through these features.

Information Collected Automatically

  • Browser local storage: We use your browser's local storage to save your preferences (such as dark mode theme and cookie consent status), calculator favorites, calculation history, and suggestion drafts entirely on your device. See Section 4 for full details.
  • Standard server logs: Like most websites, our web server may automatically log standard information such as your IP address, browser type, referring page, and the date and time of your visit. These logs are used for server maintenance and security purposes only.

Information We Do Not Collect

  • We do not require or collect usernames, passwords, or account credentials.
  • We do not collect payment or financial information.
  • We do not collect precise geolocation data.
  • Calculator inputs and results are processed in your browser and are not transmitted to or stored on our servers.

2. How We Use Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • Providing the service: To deliver our free online calculators and tools, and to display the site in accordance with your preferences (e.g., dark mode).
  • Improving the site: To understand how visitors use our site so we can improve the user experience, fix issues, and develop new features.
  • Communications: To send periodic newsletters to subscribers who have opted in, including new calculator announcements and tips. You can unsubscribe at any time.
  • Responding to suggestions: To review and respond to calculator suggestions submitted through our feedback form.
  • Displaying advertisements: To serve relevant advertisements through third-party advertising networks such as Google AdSense, which help keep our calculators free for everyone.
  • Security and maintenance: To monitor for abuse, maintain server security, and ensure the site functions properly.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for their marketing purposes.

3. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

Cookies are small text files placed on your device by websites you visit. We use cookies to enhance your experience on our site.

Cookies We Set

Our site does not set any first-party HTTP cookies. All user preferences (such as theme choice, cookie consent acknowledgment, and newsletter subscription status) are stored in your browser's local storage instead. See Section 4 for full details on what is stored locally.

Third-Party Cookies

We use or plan to use third-party services that may set their own cookies on your device:

  • Google AdSense: Google may use cookies (including the DoubleClick cookie) to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site and other websites. These cookies allow Google and its partners to serve ads to you based on your browsing patterns. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
  • Google Analytics: We may implement Google Analytics to understand site usage and improve our service. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect anonymous, aggregated data about how visitors interact with our site. You can opt out by installing the Google Analytics Opt-Out Browser Add-on.

Managing Cookies

You can control and delete cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies. Since our site relies on browser local storage rather than first-party cookies for preferences, blocking cookies will primarily affect third-party services such as advertising. Consult your browser's help documentation for instructions on managing cookies.

4. Browser Local Storage

In addition to cookies, we use your browser's local storage (a feature of modern web browsers) to store data entirely on your device. This data is never transmitted to our servers.

Storage Key Purpose Data Stored
yc-favorites Saves your list of favorite calculators so you can quickly access them from the Favorites page. Calculator slug identifiers
yc-history Stores your recent calculation history for convenient reference. Calculator names, inputs, and results
yc-suggestions Temporarily saves draft content in the suggestion form so your input is not lost if you navigate away. Form field values
yc-theme Stores your theme preference (light or dark mode) so the site displays correctly on return visits, including an early initialization script that prevents a flash of incorrect theme. Theme name (light or dark)
yc-cookies Records that you have acknowledged our cookie consent banner, so it is not shown again on subsequent visits. Consent flag (1)
yc-newsletter Stores your email address after subscribing to the newsletter, so the subscription form can display your subscription status. Email address

Clearing Local Storage

You can clear local storage data at any time through your browser's developer tools or settings. Navigate to your browser's settings, find the site data or storage section, and remove the data for this site. Note that clearing local storage will reset your favorites, calculation history, and theme preference.

5. Third-Party Services

Our site relies on the following third-party services to deliver functionality and content. Each of these services may collect limited technical data (such as your IP address) as part of delivering their resources to your browser.

Content Delivery Networks (CDNs)

  • jsDelivr (cdn.jsdelivr.net): We load the Bootstrap CSS framework, Bootstrap Icons, and Chart.js library from jsDelivr. When your browser requests these files, jsDelivr may receive your IP address and browser information. jsDelivr Privacy Policy.
  • jQuery CDN (code.jquery.com): We load the jQuery library from the jQuery CDN. Your browser makes a request to their servers to download this file. OpenJS Foundation Privacy Policy.
  • Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com): We load the Inter font from Google Fonts. When your browser requests font files, Google may collect limited data. Google Privacy Policy.

Advertising

  • Google AdSense: We use or plan to use Google AdSense to display advertisements. Google AdSense may use cookies and web beacons to serve ads based on your visits to this site and other websites on the internet. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your browsing history. You may opt out of personalized advertising at Google Ads Settings or by visiting www.aboutads.info.

Analytics

  • Google Analytics (planned): We may implement Google Analytics to gather anonymous usage statistics, such as page views, session duration, and general geographic location. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects data in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy. When implemented, you will be able to opt out using the Google Analytics Opt-Out Add-on.

6. Data Retention

  • Local storage data (favorites, history, theme preference, consent status) persists on your device until you clear your browser data.
  • Server logs are retained for a limited period (typically up to 90 days) and are then automatically purged.

Data collected by third-party services (Google AdSense, Google Analytics, CDN providers) is subject to their respective retention policies.

7. Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect the information we handle. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security. Calculator inputs and results are processed locally in your browser and are not stored on or transmitted to our servers, which minimizes the risk associated with sensitive calculations.

8. Children's Privacy

YalmCalc is a general-audience website that provides educational calculator tools. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13, in compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

Our calculators can be used by individuals of all ages without providing any personal information. The only personal information we collect (email for newsletter subscription) is provided voluntarily and should only be submitted by individuals aged 13 or older, or with parental consent.

If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child under 13 without proper parental consent, we will take steps to delete that information promptly. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority.

For California Residents

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), California residents have additional rights including the right to know what personal information is collected, the right to delete personal information, and the right to opt out of the sale of personal information.
