How to Use the Shoe Size Converter
The Shoe Size Converter translates shoe sizes between US, UK, European (EU), and centimeter-based (Japanese/Korean) sizing systems. Select men, women, or children sizes, enter your size in one system, and instantly see the equivalent in all other systems.
How to Convert
Select your gender category (men, women, or children), enter your known shoe size, and select the sizing system. The converter displays equivalent sizes in all other systems. A US men size 10 converts to UK 9.5, EU 43, and 28 cm.
Sizing Systems Explained
US Sizing: Different scales for men and women. Women sizes are typically 1.5 numbers higher than men for the same foot length. A men 8 and women 9.5 fit the same foot.
UK Sizing: Similar to US men sizes but offset by 0.5 to 1 size. A US men 10 is typically a UK 9 or 9.5.
EU Sizing: Unisex numbering system measured in Paris points (2/3 cm each). Ranges from about 35 to 48 for adults. A US men 10 is typically EU 43-44.
CM (Mondopoint): Based on foot length in centimeters. The most precise system, used in Japan and Korea. A 28 cm foot is about a US men 10.
Measuring Your Foot
Stand on paper, trace your foot, and measure from heel to longest toe in centimeters. Measure both feet and use the larger measurement. Measure in the afternoon when feet are slightly swollen. Add 0.5-1 cm for a comfortable fit. The centimeter measurement gives you the most accurate starting point for conversion.
Width Considerations
Shoe sizes indicate length, not width. Width designations vary: US uses letters (B=narrow, D=standard for men, E/EE=wide). EU and UK systems do not always specify width. A correct length with wrong width leads to discomfort. If between sizes, go up for wide feet and consider width-specific shoes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Are shoe size conversions exact?
A: Conversions are approximate. Manufacturing tolerances, brand differences, and last shapes mean the same size varies between manufacturers. A Nike size 10 may fit differently from an Adidas size 10. Use conversions as a starting point and always try shoes on when possible.
Q: Why do women and men have different size scales?
A: The US system uses different scales because women shoes historically had different styling and construction. The offset is about 1.5 sizes (women size 8 ≈ men size 6.5). The EU system avoids this confusion by using a single unisex scale based on physical measurements.
Q: Do shoe sizes change with age?
A: Adult foot size can change over time. Feet tend to get slightly larger with age due to ligament relaxation, weight gain, and arch changes. Pregnancy can also increase foot size permanently. Re-measure your feet every few years rather than assuming your size is constant.
