How to Use the Work Days Calculator
The Work Days Calculator counts business days (Monday through Friday) between two dates, excluding weekends and optionally excluding public holidays. It is essential for project scheduling, delivery estimates, legal deadlines, and any business-related date calculation.
Two Calculation Modes
Count Business Days: Enter a start and end date to see how many working days fall between them. For example, if you start a project on January 6, 2025 (Monday) with a deadline of January 31, 2025 (Friday), there are 20 business days.
Add Business Days: Enter a start date and a number of business days to find the target date. If a shipment takes 10 business days from March 3, 2025, it arrives around March 17, 2025 (accounting for two weekends).
Excluding Public Holidays
Select your country or region to automatically exclude public holidays from the count. U.S. federal holidays include New Year Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Custom holidays can be added manually.
Legal and Financial Deadlines
Many legal deadlines are specified in business days. A 30-business-day notice period is roughly 6 calendar weeks. Securities settlement in the U.S. is T+1 (one business day after the trade date). Regulatory response periods, contract terms, and court filing deadlines often use business days.
Project Management
Convert project timelines between business days and calendar days for accurate scheduling. A 20-business-day project takes about 4 calendar weeks. Factor in holidays near your deadline to avoid surprises. Use the calculator to set realistic milestones and sprint durations.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Does the calculator handle different countries holidays?
A: Yes. The calculator includes public holiday calendars for major countries. Select your location from the dropdown to automatically exclude applicable holidays. You can also add custom dates for company-specific holidays or observances.
Q: What if my work week is not Monday to Friday?
A: Some industries work different schedules. The calculator allows you to customize which days are considered working days. For example, if your business operates Tuesday through Saturday, deselect Monday and select Saturday.
Q: How does the calculator handle half-day holidays?
A: The calculator counts whole business days only. Half days (like Christmas Eve in some workplaces) are counted as full business days unless you manually add them to the exclusion list. For precise scheduling, consider these partial days in your planning.
